Hair Care: Learning To Love Your Locks!

Hair care is one of the easiest ways to complement your outfit, depending on the situation. Whether you are attending a fun social gathering, conducting a business meeting or just lounging around the house, you can convey your mood with your hair. Read this article for interesting hair care tips!

Look up different styles from your favorite celebrities in magazines or in a hair style magazine. When you find a style that you like, consult with a hair stylist to see if that style is possible for your hair. You can be amazed at how skilled hair stylists are in helping you keep up with the latest hair styles.

If you are a frequent ponytail wearer, don’t place the ponytail on the same spot every time. Stress can occur in your hair even when using soft scrunchies. This stress can lead to breakage over time. If you have to pull all of your hair back because of work, or for other reasons, try to pull it down for a little while every day.

When you are using a hair dryer to dry your hair you should not keep it in one place on your hair for any amount of time. The focused heat on that part of the hair can cause damage and dry your hair out unnecessarily. Keep it moving!

Make sure to clean out your brushes and combs, and wash them periodically. A good rule of thumb is to clean them with soap and water around once a week. This will minimize the amount of build up that you will incur on your hair follicles and you will have healthier hair.

Avoid alcohol based styling products to avoid drying out your curly hair. The best method of applying your styling products is to separate the hair into multiple sections, and apply your styling creams or gels while the hair is still damp. A great way to keep the hair damp during application is to use a spray bottle filled with water.

Keep your terrycloth towels far away from your curly hair. Curls should only be dried with cotton or microfiber towels. Using a terrycloth towel to dry will cause frizz and will pull your curls out of shape. Consider using a old cotton t-shirt or even a paper towel. Be sure as well to blot your hair dry to keep your curls looking spectacular.

During the winter and fall, remember not to stay out when it is cold for extended periods of time. During cooler weather, the humidity in the air normally drops, which can dry out your hair. If you must stay out for a long period of time, be sure to bundle up.

Have a look at outside influences if you find that your hair is looking dull or flat. Factors such as nicotine, unhealthy diet, lack of physical exercise and too much stress or anxiety can all impact on the way that your hair looks. Make changes in these areas where necessary.

Make sure you only apply conditioner to your hair and not to your scalp. It is the hair shaft that needs to be conditioned and have the oils and moisture replaced. Applying conditioner to your scalp will only make it more oily and weigh your hair down. Start putting the conditioner on your hair from about midway down all the way to the tips.

To prevent nighttime damage to your hair, use a satin pillowcase. Cotton pillowcases can dry out hair and absorb its oils. A satin pillowcase lets you wake up with non-frizzy hair that looks almost as good as it did when you got in bed. A satin headscarf is also an option if for some reason the pillowcase won’t work out.

Use a towel to dry your hair, as much as possible, before blow drying. When blow drying your hair, use the coolest possible setting to avoid damage. Do not leave the blow dryer in the same spot for more than a few seconds and keep it several inches away from your head.

When you finish bathing, skip the blow dryer. Air drying your hair encourages volume and discourages frizz. If you must use a blow dryer, consider using it on the cool setting to encourage the sheath of your hair strands to lay down. This encourages the illusion of shine and is better for your hair than heat.

Natural animal hair brushes are the best choice when it comes to brushes for your hair. The bristles are softer and will flex more. The flexible brushes will cause less damage than using a brush that has stiff, plastic bristles on it. Be sure to choose one that also has smooth tips on it.

Wearing a swim cap when swimming may make you feel silly, but it is going to play a big role in how healthy your hair is. If you swim on a regular basis, you must be sure to wear the swim cap. The chlorine will damage your hair more than you could think.

Avoid overusing styling products. Using too many lotions, creams, conditioners and the like can be just as destructive to the hair as using none. Hair-care products can build up over time, smothering your hair in a coating of oil and chemicals and irritating your scalp. Stick to a few reliable products and rotate them occasionally to keep them from building up.

You must drink lots of water to have the healthiest hair possible. Water not only hydrates your body, it also hydrates your hair. Drinking plenty of water makes sure that your hair is hydrated, which leads to less frizzy days! As a goal, always try to drink about eight glasses of water every day.

As said previously, hair care is ultimately up to how you feel about your appearance. If you’d like to spend a lot of time doing your hair, each day, do so! If you like to simply run a comb through or throw it up, feel free. Doing what makes you comfortable is the key!
